For any businessman dealing with property and home-buying or selling transactions, Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) registration is mandatory. Despite this, four well-known housing web portals did not register themselves with MahaRERA. MahaRERA secretary Vasant Prabhu told Mumbai Live that these websites should revert to the notices within four weeks.

Along with builders and developers, it is mandatory for real estate agents to register themselves with MahaRERA. Mumbai Grahak Panchayat president Advocate Shirish Deshpande believes that people cannot complain about the housing web portals in case of duping or a bad housing deal.

When Mumbai Grahak Panchayat realised that housing web portals such as www.makaan.com, www.99acres.com, www.housing.com, and www.magicbricks.com did not register with MahaRERA, the former filed a complaint against the said websites. Likewise, acting on the complaint, MahaRERA sent a notice and demanded clarification.

Two days ago, the hearing took place in the Mumbai Grahak Panchayat office, where they were asked to clarify their stand.

Meanwhile, during the hearing, all the four website officials claimed that they are not real estate agents, said Advocate Shirish Deshpande, President, Mumbai Grahak Panchayat. The next hearing will take place on August 29, 2018. Source: Mumbai Live
